Kuala Terengganu is the state and royal capital of Terengganu state in Malaysia. It is also the largest city of the Terengganu state. Kuala Terengganu is a pleasant town with a relaxing lifestyle, allowing visitors to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Kuala Terengganu is located approximately 500 kilometers northeast away from Kuala Lumpur. It is surrounded on three sides by the South China Sea. Something special about Kuala Terengganu is that it was once a trishaw capital of Malaysia where people here travel around the town on trishaw. Although it is less to be seen on the road today, they are still available and is a popular form of inner-city transport especially for the visitors. For visitors from other cities or towns of Terengganu or other states in West Malaysia, you may get a taxi service to send you from airport to Kuala Terengganu. Other than that, there are many local buses available to take you to most of the places of interest.
By Air
Kuala Terengganu is served by Sultan Mahmud Airport, about 30 minutes from town. Regular flights are available between Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur operated by Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia and Firefly. Each journey takes about 1 hour.
By Bus
For visitors who prefer to travel on land, there are regular and frequent bus services from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Georgetown, Kota Bharu and other cities. The trip duration from Kuala Lumpur takes about 7 hours per way.
