Bangkok BTS Transportation Guide

Bangkok Mass Transit System (also known as Sky train or BTS) is the most common and popular transportation system in Bangkok. Unlike the underground MRT system, BTS railway is built overhead. Bangkok BTS is divided into 2 lines, namely Silom Line and Sukhumvit Line. Silom line is serving a total of 9 stations where Sukhumvit line is serving 22 stations.

BTS operation hour:

- The operation hour for BTS begins at 6am in most of the stations and end at around 12.30am.

3 to 8 minutes (depends on timing).

Please use the BTS interactive map here to check fare and estimated travel time. In general the fare is falls in between 15 baht to 52 baht per trip.

BTS ticketing:

Types of BTS ticket:

There are 2 types of BTS ticket (magnetic ticket) and pass (smart pass) available for purchase, depending on your requirements, here is a list of available BTS tickets and passes for your reference:

1. Single Journey Ticket – Valid for single journey and on the date of purchase only.

2. One Day Pass - Unlimited transfer on the date of purchase.

3. BTS Smart Pass (30 days smart pass and Stored Value smart pass) – Issued based on the number of trips traveled per 30 days.

Where to buy BTS tickets:

Traveler can visit the ticketing office located in each BTS station or use the Ticket Issuing Machine in the BTS station. There are 3 types of Ticket Issuing Machine and the difference for each of them is explained below:

1. TIM – Receives coins only (1, 5 or 10 bahts). (user guide)

2. ITM – Receives coins (1, 5 or 10 bahts) and bank notes (20,50 or 100 bahts). (user guide)

3. TVM – Receives coins (1, 5 or 10 bahts) and bank notes (20,50 or 100 bahts). (user guide)

BTS and Airport Link interchange:

Alight at BTS Phaya Thai and connect with Airport Link Phaya Thai.

The journey from Phaya Thai Airport Link to Suvarnabhumi International Airport takes about 30 minutes and stop at 6 stations along the journey.

Airport link operation hour: 6.00am to 12.25am daily
