Sibu Airport is located approximately 23 km from Sibu, a town in the Sarawak state. Towns with closest proximity to the airport are Sibu, Sarikei, Dalat and Kanowit. The airport began operations in 1994. Subsequently it was expanded and upgraded to house the second largest airport terminal in Sarawak, with new opening in September 2012.
