Putrajaya, a Federal Territory of Malaysia is a city located 30 kilometers south of the capital, Kuala Lumpur. It is a federal administrative capital, also known as the “Intelligent Garden City”. The beautiful city is covered in extensive greenery landscape and botanical gardens. There are also large bodies of water and wetlands that meet at the north forming a main waterway, the Putrajaya Lake which flows across the city area. The lake is designed to cool down the city plus helping in flood control and water purification.
There are many amazing parks located in Putrajaya. One of them is the Putrajaya Botanical Garden. Here at the park, visitors can discover the different tropical plants as well as some tree specimens. Another park would be the man made freshwater wetlands, The Wetlands Park, which is said to the biggest in the tropics. Visitors will be able to explore how wetlands act as natural filtration system and see some of the creatures that live in the wetlands environments. If you would like to see traditional Malaysian produces, do stop by at the Agriculture Heritage Park to see fruit trees, rubber, cocoa, palm oil, herbs and spices.
Horseback Riding and Cycling
For visitors who like to go off the beaten track a bit can do some horse riding here at the Putrajaya Equestrian Centre. It is open to the public with a riding school providing riding lessons at reasonable rates to the beginner, intermediate and advanced riders. There are occasional racing and show jumping events held at the center. Besides, the center also has equestrian and polo fields, dressage arena, grandstand as well as a paddock available for the events. There is also a dedicated cycle track available in Putrajaya where the cycle paths are away from busy roads. You can bring along your bicycles or even rent one here to go around enjoying the fresh air and green surroundings.
Rock Climbing and Cruising
For some adrenaline rush, you should go to the Putrajaya Challenge Park. Here you can do some rock climbing activity at the giant indoor rock climbing center. In addition, you may ride a bike at the extensive concrete BMX and skateboard’s park. There is a cross-country mountain bike trails available as well. On the other hand, if you feel a bit tired of going around the Putrajaya city, you can take a 45 minute sightseeing cruise on a comfortable fully air-conditioned 76-seater cruise boat to see the city’s sights. Or if you prefer some privacy, there are Gondola-style of boat rides available as well.
Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and Annual Flower and Garden Festival
A Millennium Monument is constructed to feature a timeline of engraved glass panels which trace the important milestones in Malaysia’s history over the centuries up to the year 2000. On top of that, here is the place where 2 yearly events are held, the Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and the Floria Putrajaya. The Floria Putrajaya is Malaysia’s premier annual flower and garden festival. Visitors may plan ahead should you wish to join in these 2 events.
