Itinerary:

The railway industry thrived during the industrial revolution, and during the occupation of the British, The North Borneo Railway was constructed. It soon became an integral part of the Malayan growth as it connected the various parts of Sabah, making commerce and trade grow in leaps and bounds. Your journey takes you to the famed North Borneo Railway, which exhibits the famous Vulcan Steam engine. Powered using only wood and fire, it was once an advanced piece of machinery. Its use was later stopped due to its high costs and soon replaced with the more modern types of engines. Step back into time, and relive the colonial days of the British era on board the vintage steam train, and be dazzled by the picturesque country side view, the vast greenery, and the sights and sounds that Sabah has to offer.

Your journey begins with a meet at the hotel lobby for transfer to Tanjung Aru Railway Station, one of the oldest operating railway systems in Sabah (since 1896). Upon arrival, board the vintage steam train, as it takes you from Kota Kinabalu south bound onto Tenom at Pangi Station. The journey is approximately 134 kilometres across the Sabahan country side. A wholesome breakfast will be served on board. Originally used for the transportation of tobacco, it still serves as a reliable mode of transportation for the locals heading to the suburban areas of the region.

You then proceed down to the town of Papar, where the tracks lead you on to the serene countryside, and you make a stop at the town of Kinarut. Visit the Tien Shi Temple, the holy place of worship for the Chinese locals, famed for its beautifully crafted holy statues. Visit the local wet market for some quick bargains, and gaze upon rows after rows of ancient wooden shop houses that are still standing today.

Be in for a special treat, as you will be served a colonial-style lunch on board – known as the Tiffin. Enjoy the feast as you are surrounded by the peaceful scenery of the countryside from the comfort of your seat.

Once you arrive at Tanjung Aru Station, proceed for a transfer back to your hotel.
