Upon arriving at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your driver, who will assist you with the transfer to Kinabalu Park. The scenic 2.5-hour journey takes you through lush landscapes and quaint villages, providing a glimpse of Sabah’s natural beauty. Once at the park, complete the pre-registration process at the Sabah Park Office and the SSL office to finalise the necessary documentation for your climb.
Afterwards, check into the comfortable Lodge, where you can unwind and settle in. Dinner will be served at the cozy Liwagu Restaurant, offering a variety of local and international dishes. After dinner, return to your Lodge and rest to recharge for the exciting journey ahead.
Meal Plan: Dinner
The day begins early with a hearty breakfast at Liwagu Restaurant at 6:15 AM to fuel your energy for the climb. Collect your packed lunch from the restaurant before checking out of the Lodge. At 7:30 AM, a shuttle from Sutera Sanctuary Lodges will pick you up and transfer you to Timpohon Gate, the starting point of the trek. Before heading out, deposit any unnecessary baggage at the storage room for a nominal fee (RM15/bag).
Meet your mountain guide for a detailed safety briefing, ensuring you are well-prepared for the climb. The trek to Laban Rata spans 5-6 hours and takes you through breathtaking mountain forests, unique flora, and refreshing streams. Upon arrival at Laban Rata Resthouse, settle into the shared non-heated dormitory and rest after the day’s effort. Dinner is served between 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM at the resthouse’s restaurant. Take in the peaceful ambiance of the mountains as you prepare for an early lights-off at 9:00 PM, getting much-needed rest for the summit climb.

The most anticipated part of the journey begins in the early hours of the morning. At 2:00 AM, a light supper is served at the restaurant to give you the energy for the final ascent. By 2:30 AM, guided by your mountain guide, begin the challenging yet rewarding climb to the summit of Mt. Kinabalu, Low’s Peak. This segment is steep and strenuous but offers awe-inspiring views of the starlit sky and the first light of dawn. Upon reaching the peak, witness the unforgettable sunrise and panoramic views that make the climb truly worthwhile.
By 7:00 AM, start the descent back to Laban Rata, where breakfast awaits. After breakfast, continue descending to Timpohon Gate, reaching it by mid-morning. A short walk takes you to the Park HQ, where you can retrieve your stored items. Relax and savor lunch at Liwagu Restaurant while the driver collects your official Climbing Certificate, commemorating your accomplishment. Finally, enjoy a comfortable transfer back to Kota Kinabalu City or the airport, concluding your remarkable Mt. Kinabalu adventure.
