Mulu Airport is an important gateway to the well-known Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak state. In fact, the airport is located just outside the boundary of the National Park. Mulu Airport is a short take-off and landing airport, designed to accommodate smaller aircraft. Its IATA code is “MZV”, and ICAO code is “WBMU”.

How to travel between Mulu Airport and Mulu National Park

The Mulu area is mainly made up of the National Park, caves, the airport, lodging areas outside the park (guesthouses, home-stays, resorts, etc.) and native settlements. Passengers can travel between the airport and Mulu:

On Foot:

The National Park entrance / office is only 1.5 km away from the airport. Passengers can follow the direction signs along the road to walk to / from the National Park. Most guesthouses and home-stays outside the park are just 0.5 km away from the National Park entrance.

By shuttle van:

At the airport, there are shuttle vans available near arrival hall to take passengers to the National Park entrance, which costs RM5 one-way per passenger. Passengers can also request to be sent to Royal Mulu Resort, which is around 2 km from the National Park entrance, or wait for free transfer to the resort.

By long boat:

Travel by long boat to visit the show caves and native settlement along the Melinau River. At the National Park, long boat costs around RM250 (per boat) and takes up to 4 passengers. Outside the National Park, travel by long boat costs around RM25 per person.

By joining guided tour / hiring licensed park guide:

The National Park office makes it compulsory to hire guides for caves exploring and some of the hiking trails. Passengers can get the guides to arrange for transportation on top of food and lodging.

Airlines served by Mulu Airport:

Mulu Airport offers direct connectivity to 3 domestic airports, namely Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Kuching International Airport, and Miri Airport, and international connectivity to Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. Malaysia Airlines (operated by MASwings) is the only airline operating from the airport currently.
